There are several benefits students can gain from extracurricular activities. Besides providing a unique opportunity for students to expand their networks and social circles, Ogden’s extracurricular programs also help students gain essential life skills and provide accomplishments that enhance college and job applications.

Ogden High School’s cheer program is just one of the many extracurricular programs that excel within the Ogden School District. In 2019 the Ogden High School Cheerleading team took first place in all of their state competitions. The team also had the chance to compete in Orlando, Florida at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, where they took 5th out of 32 competing teams. The team is led by Coach Kristie Williamson, who won the 4A cheer coach of the year in the 2016-2017 school year and is nominated again this year.

Beyond the cheer and dance programs in Ogden School District, there are also outstanding students participating in performing arts. The theatre department at Ogden High School took 1st place in state musical theatre in the 2018-2019 school year and was also awarded Best Costume Design. The team was led to success by their coach Jessi Leavell 4A state debate coach of the year. This year the team continues to dominate with at least one student placing at all tournaments attended.

Visual arts also shine as a superior program in Ogden School District. In the 2018-2019 school year, a Junior student won the Utah State Senate Award for her watercolor painting, which is now on display at the Capitol in Washington DC. Students participating in the visual arts programs also had the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Utah’s Museum of Fine Arts and the UMFA website now features pieces created by the students. Students also entered the Petite Impressions show at Eccles Community Art Center, where eight works of art from Ben Lomond High School were juried into the show.
